Mar Portugues

Fernando Pessoa’s poem Mar Portugues invokes the fictive space of cultural imaginings. Pessoa’s journey from Durban, South Africa, to Lisbon, Portugal, was a sea faring poem of memory and loss, a leaving behind of childhood and immersion in the creation of a new self, that of the Mar Portugues.
