The 2004 tsunami washed all the way to Cochin's waterfront. When the Sea Rises stages the angry god of the sea rising from the turbulent ocean. Human impact is depleting the oceans. Plastic, garbage, overfishing and toxic waste is devastating the Kerala coastline. A group of Fort Cochin Theyyem and Kallaripayatti performers dramatize the conflict between the Sea God and the Anthropocene. The site is the ruins of the old portuguese Fort Manuel, where Vasco Da Gama died. Colonial environmental destruction is now conjoined by contemporary environmental degradation. Fort Cochin is endangered by the threat of future storm surge.
